Amanda grew up in the middle of cotton and corn fields in a small town just north of Memphis. Even as a child, she was drawn to wild spaces: a small spot of forest behind her house, the Ozark mountains where she spent summers with her grandparents, or a secret swimming spot only she and a few friends knew. These are her fondest memories and instilled in her a lifelong desire to connect with nature. When Amanda saw the Appalachian mountains for the first time, she instantly felt their draw and a year later moved to Johnson City.
As a local landscaper, Amanda has come to respect a daily connection to the weather and local flora and fauna. She sees first-hand the degradation of our land and region with invasice species and the changing climate presenting challenges for generations to come as the world continues to change. Seeing these sparked a fire in her to preserve as many native edible plants for food resiliency going into the future. The best way she knows to pay that forward is educating the next generation about the food and medicine their region can offer them and how to nurture Appalachia's water supply and biodiversity. She sees the connection between the importance of native land stewardship and learning from our past, to shape how we approach solutions for the future!
The Earth is a great teacher if we have the patience to listen and observe!
